The International Herald Tribune reported on Monday that a new portrait of Shakespeare has come to light, after hanging unremarked in its owner’s home for over 400 years. The owner, Alec Cobbe, realized whom the subject of his painting was after viewing the Folger Portrait of Shakespeare in 2006. It’s since been subjected to a rigorous battery of tests, and everybody is now very pleased and excited. Gone is the image of the Bard as a balding duffy, replaced by a man who’s quite the looker. So I’ve gone ahead and created a gif file of the younger Shakespeare turning into the older one–see below!
